The painting today is of a Palomino Quarter Horse mare named Diamond. She is a lively mare and lives on small ranch in the Shenandoah Valley, here in the foothills of northern California. I have painted Diamond before and her pasture mate, Pocket Full of Silver. Enjoy!

"Herefords", 5x7-inches, o/c by Ruth Andre
I visited the Double CC Ranch awhile back and this painting came from several photos taken that day. It was a fine day and the Herefords were getting their annual check over. These two girls were off to the side happy to be free and on their own once again. Enjoy!

 "Just Being A Lady", 8x10-inches o/c
My new blog site is A Painting Day. I may add a new post to this site once in awhile but to see all my new paintings and posts access the link above. This has been a summer to experiment with my painting and I have started humbly to paint a few figures to add to my mix of works. The painting posted today is "Just Being A Lady" and it is of a young Wyoming cowgirl. She is the real thing. Enjoy!

This is a painting of a young man and his horse, as they were waiting for their number to be called, for competition. The horse was as patient as can be and acted as if he knew the routine and was in good hands. The two of them were partners and did well in the ring. Enjoy!

 6x6-inches, o/c by Ruth Andre
This is a handsome Golden Palomino. The color is almost unreal, it is so golden. Palomino horses are always impressive and much admired for their color.

This little painting is another of my oil painting sketches. I am really enjoying painting alla prima. I loved the intensity of the horses eye and the softness of his shaded white face. Enjoy!

The little study is Megan, my friend and neighbor's horse, that lives just down the road. I had fun painting this young mare and hope to paint a larger work from this study. Megan is a special mare and much loved by her owner, Lynn.

These two horses, Prince and Isabelle, are pasture mates and obviously good friends. Prince appears to be taking a quiet moment, while Isabelle keeps a watchful eye. I love watching horses interact with one another.

When I first saw photos of these two horses, I knew I had to paint them. They are pasture mates, Prince and Isabelle. They are both such kind creatures and seem to enjoy life, summer and winter. They have room to roam in their northern home. The reference photo for this painting was taken by Anne Louise Mac Donald.
Anne Louise's web site is www.hugahorsefarm.com. Anne Louise is an interesting person who cares for and writes about horses. I have two more paintings in the works of Prince and Isabelle, that I hope to be sharing in the next week or so.

 "Burro" 3.75x3.75-inches, oil on canvas
I challenged myself today by painting a very small canvas. The "Burro" painting is just 3.75x3.75-inches. This little guy is a sweetheart.
